Upgrading My Blackberry 8700
Posted by Jorge Alegre in Smartphones on March 10th, 2010

I used the points accumulated into my Vodafone account and got a new Blackberry with 0€, which is nice. I was using a blackberry 8700 for a long time, so will be nice having camera and wifi on it.
I have an iPod Touch which I use a lot, so guess browsing will still use the iPod, but now I will have camera to upload pics to facebook, etc… as well as video. The device is GPRS/EDGE Quad band which is nice for travelling.
Can sync with my Exchange server and have same things on my iPod and Blackberry, email, contacts, etc… while on Wifi. I do not expect to have a BES as I used to have with my blackberry due to cost and I can get along downloading stuff while on Wifi.
A nice thing is to have the newer blackberry OS and play around with blackberry apps. Besides, having keyboard is nice for writing my long notes as I used to do and sync them.
Why don’t get an iPhone?
Well, first is cost, I would go back to a costly solution like I had with the BES. Second, will not move to Movistar no matter what. And thrird, is nice having two devices, one long battery one and the other fun and short battery. Sometimes happens to me that iPod is out of battery, but still my BB still can use it in Metro for example to have maps, play, etc…

How Will Solid State Disks Change Our Lifes?
Posted by Jorge Alegre in Smartphones, Technology on December 11th, 2007
A few weeks ago I read about solid state disks. The thing looks to be pretty promising, as promising that Linus (yeah the Linux guy) is following this thing too. The drives are still expensive and small sized, but for next year we will have 128GB drives in the shelfs. Price could drop in a year very quickly if the innovation has many followers. So imagine…

I think the drives will be able to hot plug, so it would be a best buy for my portable PC for sure.
Corporations generally platform PC’s so they have a small C: drive, like 20GB, and all data is stored in servers, Citrix, etc… So when the computer crashes, they install a new image with all the corporate software, and you are up and running in 2 hours.
That would also be done using these drives, and use the same drive when working in a desk computer, working on the laptop, etc… I cal also imagine external drives to plug into the smartphones, selling encryption drives on hardware, etc…

New Device Battles From Apple
Posted by Jorge Alegre in Smartphones, Technology on October 4th, 2007
After the summer fest for the iPhone, we have new devices coming from Apple around the iPod. The iPhone and the new iPod Touch I think will position as the preferred multimedia portable device, although other high quality options are in the market for you to choose. After the summer fest for the iPhone, we have new devices coming from Apple around the iPod. The iPhone and the new iPod Touch I think will position as the preferred multimedia portable device, although other high quality options are in the market for you to choose.
I have an iPod, and after allmost 2 years of enjoying the device, I was dreaming all the time about a all-sreen device, where those photos would rock, and visual content look much better. I was glad it finnaly came from Apple. Actually, I think 1 year late, but as we say in Spain: ‘Mejor tarde que nunca’ => Better late then never.
But some critics arise, and I think they are mainly true. Before, my iPod video was the king, the center for all possible functionality for a device: video, podcast, video postcasts, photos and music. I have enjoyed how that technology changed the way I lived. I usually listen to Danny Sullivan podcast (search engine stuff), watch hollywood crazy stories in video, blackberry podcasts, and music podcasts like the great Roger Sanchez (Release Yourself, so cool). Anyway, now I feel that the holy grail is not my old iPod video, neither my possible future iPod Touch, the sweetheart is the iPhone, which means that Apple is alllways going to limit what I can do with the iPod Touch. People say in the net that the best ipod will be the iphone.
And that sucks a bit, cause I am not an iPhone kid (prefer my blackbeery with BES and 3G). Blackberry will allways nail it down when talking text communications all the time. But the iTouch can be the best multimedia device.
So I think Apple should change priorities and select the iPod Touch as their main objective, and allow installing Google Maps, for example, and that advantage of that Wifi great connection and browser as a second device, an alternative device that anybody will want, even the backberry people, win mobile, palm, etc….
A touch multimedia device is so cool and eye-catch that business people and kids alike will want it. Let’s all get unified by the iPod then, and pls Apple don’t limit and tell us what we can do with the iPod Touch.
I guess I will get one for xtmas, like I allways do with the electronic devices.
It is worth paying attention to other competitors that have touch screens and don’t have that marketing need for a phone. If Apple does not do the right thing, these people could give what users demand, and maybe even me, an iPod enthusiast switch over.
