Having Hope Again
Posted by Jorge Alegre in Diary on December 11th, 2007
Today I started the exercise in the pool, as told by my therapist. I did 15 min of exercise in the pool, and was not bad. It looks promising that I can do 30 min of exercise with my legs soon, and start winning the battles. Today I started the exercise in the pool, as told by my therapist. During this week I will be doing swimming too, not just walking, and in 15 days I should see some kind of improvement. Being able to shower without a seat would be really nice, but maybe too soon.
On the contrary, I met with the doctor from a private health insurance and basically she told me that my disability did not prevent me from attending work. I internally translated those words to “well, the insurance company does not want to pay for your recovering”. I can very well understand the second phrase, but I think some kind of crappy society we have when doctors tell patients to do certain activities that go against them.
Tomorrow I will meet the doctor from the public insurance, so you can imagine how I can be feeling. This is a every week stressful situation when they can tell me anytime “Game Over”, “Finito”, “Acabose”. I think every week on the same think, what I can do if they dump me. And I can’t come close to any idea, all of them are bad ideas.
I guess I will have to let time go by, and whatever comes, take it as it comes. I hope that the pool thing makes me have stronger legs, or at least feel that I am turning the trend here…

I Feel Glad for Fernando Alonso
Posted by Jorge Alegre in Diary on December 11th, 2007
Finally the Formula 1 long story is over. In the past weeks, all sorts of news came along on what Fernando would be doing, if he was visiting the F1 fabrics, if he was taking a sabatic year, etc… From the options that were available, this is the best one, at least in my opinion. The season will tell if he can manage to deliver full time on Renault again as he did before. Finally the Formula 1 long story is over. The Ferrari option was not available, and probably would only be available if the italian car maker things won’t win anything with the racers he currently has. In case they deliver a podium for 2008 championship, they wouldn’t kill for having Fernando that much. But who knows? F1 is allways unpredictable, right?
So Renault can be a great bet for next two years. McLaren’s performance in 2008 and 2009 will determine if Fernando goes for Ferrari. If they rock in 2008 with Hamilton and Ferrari can’t really deliver with Raikonen, then they could start thinking about Fernando. But if they suffer, like being third, way far from the first place in points, that would be a crisis, and would call to Fernando door.
So the end of Fernando in Ferrari could be wiseful thinking, very remote, and very unreal? who knows, time will tell..

How Will Solid State Disks Change Our Lifes?
Posted by Jorge Alegre in Smartphones, Technology on December 11th, 2007
A few weeks ago I read about solid state disks. The thing looks to be pretty promising, as promising that Linus (yeah the Linux guy) is following this thing too. The drives are still expensive and small sized, but for next year we will have 128GB drives in the shelfs. Price could drop in a year very quickly if the innovation has many followers. So imagine…

I think the drives will be able to hot plug, so it would be a best buy for my portable PC for sure.
Corporations generally platform PC’s so they have a small C: drive, like 20GB, and all data is stored in servers, Citrix, etc… So when the computer crashes, they install a new image with all the corporate software, and you are up and running in 2 hours.
That would also be done using these drives, and use the same drive when working in a desk computer, working on the laptop, etc… I cal also imagine external drives to plug into the smartphones, selling encryption drives on hardware, etc…
